Zoo Elephants

The few words that comes to our mind with the word Elephant is that large, huge mammals and found in the zoo. Animals are classified as domestic or wild and the elephants come under the section of the wild animals. Zoo elephants are kept under the supervision of the trained people providing them with food and medical attention in times of need. They are present in a protected environment. They are usually present in sanctuary and wildlife parks which let them live freely. At earlier times it was shown that kings used to go in the warfare sitting on the back of elephants. They were used as mode of transportation for human beings as well as things.

Zoo elephants are a wonderful attraction for the viewers when they visit the zoo. Sometimes they make them perform special activities which entertain all the people visiting the zoo, though they are handled very badly in the circus. They are not well treated and they are tortured for the work, nor are they provided proper food for their activity. They are trained under very hard circumstances. In a zoo all these points are exempted, they are just kept for the viewer's choice and not handled so badly. They are given proper food at proper time intervals. In some places Elephant day is celebrated so as to just increase the awareness of the Large animal and to protect it from extinction.

Zoo Elephants

The few interactive features which makes the Zoo elephants a most desirable choice is that it is the largest land animal that is present. It lives for 50-70 years. Their gestation time is 22 months which is the largest for any land animal. After that the new born baby elephant is nearly about 120 kgs. The elephant is believed to be very intelligent and it has a major trunk worth watching and there are two tusks from each side. It performs many activities with the trunk in taking and giving off things to the viewers. It can drink about 14litres of water at a time. If the elephants are not kept in the zoo there are many reasons they can become extinct. Some of the reasons are habitat loss, as now a day forests are being cut down and then other reasons are hunting. Elephants are hunted down for their tusks as it is very costly and they are sold off.
