Elephant Gestation is one of the considerable points for most of the nature scientists. The gestation period in elephants is the longest period than many of the mammals. This period generally last for 1 year 10 months. The gestation period is different in elephants, which depend on the type of elephants. The elephants are categorized based on the location where they live. There are African elephants and Asian elephant's categorization. Generally, the elephants become ready for maturity sexually when it reaches the age of twelve to thirteen years. The right age for an elephant to get pregnancy is thirteen years. The gestation period of elephants also is very long than any mammals. The gestation period of the whale is generally one year, which is less than that of the elephant gestation. Elephants are capable to hold pregnancy up to the age of sixty years.

Even though, the Elephant gestation period is very long, there is possibility to have only one calf at a time. It is certainly very very rare to have twin calf at a time. Generally, it will be very difficult for an elephant cow to be crossed with the elephant bull. When the calf is born, it will be almost blind and will learn about the world by the sense of its trunk. This is also one of the reasons why elephants come to their sexual maturity very late. Since elephants are the largest and slowest animals in the world, even their natural processes like elephant gestation period also lasts long.

Even one fact that is more interesting is that the elephant gestation period depends on the gender of the calf that is going to born. If it is male calf, then the elephant gestation period is little bit long and in case of the female calf, this elephant gestation period will be little bit less.
